Cherrin’s
lobbying and government relations expertise spans both sides One of the strengths of Caponigro PR is its ability to create strategic public relations programs that not only coordinate multiple services, such as media relations, crisis management, employee communications, and media and speaker training, but also take advantage of synergies between public relations and other disciplines. In that spirit, Caponigro PR has added lobbying and government relations to its roster of capabilities in response to the growing demand to better communicate and advocate for client needs before government leaders. Dan Cherrin, a registered lobbyist in the state of Michigan, with the U.S. Congress, and in the country of Canada, is a Caponigro PR Vice President. He provides senior public and government relations counsel, and direct media relations and lobbying services to several of the firm’s clients. By the time he was 25, Dan had run for the State Legislature, backpacked through Europe, and appeared on MTV as one of the youngest candidates running for office. And the pace hasn’t slowed since then. Cherrin is an attorney who has practiced law in the areas of litigation and appellate law, and has served as lead federal lobbyist for the Detroit Regional Chamber. While at the Chamber, Cherrin led a coalition of business and political leaders to lobby for additional resources to improve border security and speed the flow of traffic at the Detroit-Windsor border, shortly after September 11, 2001. Before joining Caponigro PR, Cherrin was Vice President/Managing Partner of Public I, a public relations/government relations firm in Birmingham, Mich. His responsibilities there included conducting public/media relations and branding/image campaigns, and implementing comprehensive government relations/public affairs work. “In the ongoing battle for ideas and influence, many companies and organizations are turning to our firm to help get their voices heard,” said Jeff Caponigro, president and CEO. “With Dan’s leadership, we can guide our clients through the crowded intersection of special interests, where ideas collide and decision-makers meet. We make sure that our clients know the politics, policies, people and process that drive decisions.” CPR’s lobbying and government relations practice includes legislative lobbying; monitoring of legislation; regulatory rule-making at the federal, state and local levels; identifying and tracking issues; developing position papers and policy statements; and, building coalitions and grassroots support. “And we offer the added feature of reaching across the border into Canada with Dan’s extensive experience with companies and associations in Windsor, Toronto and other cities in Canada,” Caponigro said.
